Sultana Yusuf

Palestinian, Israeli, International Women Seek Middle East Peace

My Grandmother, Sultana Yusuf
Honored Citizen of Pakistan

My grandmother is a remarkable human being. Aside from being a devout Muslim and a concerned citizen of Pakistan, she is also caring and kindhearted towards those who need love. She did not complete high school because her father wanted her to marry at an early age, but her husband (my grandfather) then thought it necessary for her to get an education, so she had a private tutor. She went on to learn how to read and write English and this would benefit her for the rest of her life. My grandmother then began to take part in community service such as helping out in hospitals, schools, and mosques. She with seven other women, in the early 1950's, then began an organization called The Women's Refugee Rehabilitation. This organization was specifically created to help Muslim women who were fleeing from India into the new country of Pakistan, which was the aftermath of the partition. The organization is still in existence and in the past has been honored by the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees. My grandmother, Sultana Yusuf, I believe has led an extraordinary life and she is still aiding the community with full stamina. I honestly admire her for her amazing accomplishments in life and I look to her as one of my role models, for she has not only brought some peace to the world, she has made a positive impact on the world.
